The Atlantic Jewish Council (AJC)

Thirty-two years ago, the Jewish communities of Atlantic Canada established the AJC in order to organize and coordinate Jewish activities in small communities scattered throughout the region.   As its Mission Statement declares, the AJC is dedicated to enhancing the quality of Jewish life in Atlantic Canada and promoting the continuity of Jewish communities in the region, and to supporting the democratic State of Israel and its long term viability.

The AJC supports a number of community-based programs in the region, from annual holiday-based events to special lectures and series.  Among their most comprehensive operations is ,  Camp Kadimah one of Jewish Canada’s foremost summer camps for Jewish children all over the world, which has operated for more than 64 years.

The AJC’s Halifax Immigration committee continues to explore opportunities with other community agencies to attract immigrants and ensure there is adequate information on employment and community supports for them.

The Hillel works to promote a sense of unity and identity, an awareness of Jewish issues, and a strong sense of pride among Jewish students on the campuses of the Atlantic Provinces.   Through the generous donation of a Bayit from the Albert and Temmy Latner Foundation, Toronto, the JSA has a home to hold meetings and social gatherings and to conduct Shabbat dinners.
